County Board Supervisor Jeff Weigand Blasts Irresponsible and Reckless County Budget, Calls on County Executive to Veto Cuts to Public Safety
Jeff Weigand - November 13, 2025 (release date November 5, 2025)
The Dane County Board of Supervisors passed the 2026 County Budget Thursday evening. The $825,599,213 spending plan misses the mark for the following reasons:
Raises property taxes by $11,582,690
Cuts the Sherrif’s budget by $2,388,000 and requires the Sherrif to leave 20 vacant positions open and unfilled all year long
Funds up to $20,000 to pay for transportation, childcare and other support for women who want an abortion
Raises the vehicle registration fee by 30%
Raises parking fees at the Alliant Energy Center by 20%
Raises garbage fees at the landfill by various amounts
Raises parking fees at the Dane County Regional Airport by various amounts
Raises cremation permit fees
In the 5 years I have been on the County Board, property taxes have risen 30% from $209,335,114 in 2022 to $272,034,539 in 2026. This is unacceptable as Dane County taxpayers are not seeing a 30% increase in services.

Nothing is Too Big or Small for Progressives… to Put Under Government Control
David Blaska, Blaska Policy Werkes - November 11, 2025
”We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve, and no concern too small for it to care about.” — Zohran Mamdani
“Everybody in America knows our current health care system is broke, it is dysfunctional, it is cruel … by far the most expensive health care system in the world.”
Bernie Sanders said that. Them’s his own words, delivered on the floor of the Senate Monday 11-10-25. Fifteen years after a Democrat signed “ObamaCare” into law. That is what 40 Days and 40 Nights of the Schumer Shutdown was all about. Bailing out the Democrats’ broke, dysfunctional, and cruel health care system. Price tag: $60 billion over a biennium.
And taking on Trump’s Republicans. Democrats were willing to strand grandma at the airport and take the Thanksgiving turkey off the table. Showing partisan fight was more important than good governance.
“What Senate Dems who voted for this horse sh— deal did was f—- over all the hard work people put in to Tuesday’s elections.” — Mark Pocan, D-Hamas, on X (Twitter)
