Madison is a Perfect Example of Why Cities Should Stay Out of Grocery Business
Mike Nichols, Badger Institute - November 26, 2025
“This is the way Communists think”
Government-supported grocery stores are suddenly all the rage.
In New York, democratic socialist mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has promised to open city-owned stores in each of the five boroughs.
In Atlanta, the city contributed $8 million in cash and grants to a store that opened last summer and is already planning another subsidized store 6 miles away.
There have been government-owned stores in recent years in Florida and Kansas.
And in Madison — well, what’s happening in a south side neighborhood in Madison is the perfect illustration of why government should stay out of an intensely competitive business it knows nothing about.
Sun Prairie’s Expanded License-Plate Surveillance Sparks Major Privacy Concerns
TrueNorthNews - November 29, 2025
Recently, the Sun Prairie Police Department (SPPD) has expanded its use of automatic license-plate readers (ALPRs), prompting concern among residents over surveillance and privacy rights. |
The department now uses ALPR cameras both on squad cars and mounted on utility poles around town, supplied via vendor Flock Safety. According to Assistant Chief Ryan Cox, the system functions as an “immediate force multiplier,” enabling officers to identify wanted vehicles, vehicles used in violent felonies, or those on a “hot list” tied to recent crimes.
Time to Jettison Teachers Unions!
Dave Glomp - December 1, 2025
You might ask, why is this the case? It has to do with the curriculum in today’s public schools! Even when a local school’s curriculum is supposed to be set by local school boards that does not seem to happen, because teachers connected with either the NEA (National Education Association), the AFT (American Federation of Teachers), or its affiliates adjust overall learning and goals.
Students’ time for the basics, like Reading, Writing, Math, Science, History, etc. are sacrificed for AFT or NEA social priorities. Not every teacher at every level complies with this indoctrination, but the majority do. It is time for each and every parent to ask questions of both their students and those teaching them! Ask to see their text books or other materials used in classroom teaching.
Time is short to turn this calamity around!
