National Comedian Skewers Socialists Like Hong

Thank you, Bill Maher; we needed that: a dose of sanity in a world crazied up by the paranoid narcissist in Washington and by the smiling communist running for governor here in Wisconsin. Some hard truths! A rare commodity in Madison, a city being autonomously zoned out by a nihilistic cult deifying a career criminal as some kind of martyr.

No one more deserved the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this or any year more than Bill Maher. Past winners like Carol Burnett or Bill Murray produced laughter but not the social commentary of the author of Innocents Abroad — or like George Carlin, a past recipient. P.J. O’Rourke should have received the prize; so, too, Mort Sahl if the award had existed in the 1950s and Will Rogers in the 1930s.

“J.D. Vance was on the show and I told him if the Democratic party keeps going in the direction of the Democratic Socialists of America my vote was in play … Here’s why: Not a week goes by when I don’t read about some exciting new face in the Democratic party and then when that face opens its mouth the Communist Manifesto or some other crazy s**t comes out. …

“Francesca Hong, yet another major Democratic candidate who’s all in on abolishing the police — abolishing the police! — and is running for governor of Wisconsin says, ‘I think my perfect world would be a world without prisons because we all see the humanity in one another and then we know nobody is disposable.’ Well, murder victims are [disposable]. If you heard this kind of nonsense coming out of the mouth of a teenage beauty queen it would be an eye roll. [Audience laughter] …

“No wonder the most true-blue Democrat ever, James Carville, says ‘there’s just some s**t I can’t be in the same tent with.’ … It’s so ironic, from the people who obsess about colonization! You know who’s being colonized now? The Democratic party!

On July 1, 2015, 32-year-old Kathryn “Kate” Steinle was killed while sightseeing in San Francisco with her father and a family friend. According to federal prosecutors, Steinle was walking on Pier 14, a popular tourist attraction in San Francisco’s Embarcadero area, when she was shot in the back by Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate, an illegal immigrant from Mexico with a lengthy criminal record.

It wasn’t Garcia-Zarate’s first illegal trip into the U.S. Federal immigration records show that he had been deported six times prior to Steinle’s killing: in 1994, 1997, twice in 1998, 2006, and 2009. And he had been arrested by San Francisco police in March 2015, four months before the murder, for an outstanding drug possession warrant.

Following his arrest, U.S. immigration officials lodged an immigration detainer on Garcia-Zarate—in other words, they requested that the police hold him for an additional 48 hours to allow them time to assume custody and deport him. Instead, San Francisco’s prosecutor, George Gascón, dropped the drug charges and the San Francisco police, as a matter of policy, disregarded the federal immigration detainer and released Garcia-Zarate on April 15. Less than three months later, Kate Steinle was dead.
