Teachers Love Immigrants More Than Students
Madison teachers walked out on their students and classrooms on Friday, May 1st! (Sun Prairie, too, with the district giving less than 24 hours notice to parents.)
Yes, that’s right, they feel that demonstrating against our government rounding up immigrants who entered our country illegally is more important than educating our children. The demonstration and abandonment is sanctioned by the Madison School Board and orchestrated by MTI (Madison Teachers Incorporated), the Madison Teachers’ Union. Meanwhile, many of today’s young people are scoring lower on achievement tests in reading, writing, math, and the sciences than ever before.
I don’t know what percentage of all MTI union members participated, but apparently 70% of staff signatures were gathered supporting participation in the “A Day without Immigrants” demonstration at the State Capitol. In addition, the Union will be demanding more funding for schools while the per student funding ratio is the highest in history. One key question to ask is why are they demonstrating on a school day and not on Saturday? Why take valuable time for students away from their classrooms, to reward illegal immigrants many of which have serious criminal records?
Those with students in school, ask yourself if you or your kids had any input into the decision to close schools on May 1? I think it’s time for all annual school per student funding to be given to parents and students to decide where they want to go to school!
