Caitlin Clark Targeted By WNBA Opponents
On Wednesday June 24, 2026, once again, the #1 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft, Caitlin Clark was seriously injured by the blatant actions of an opposing team player. It caused a neck and back injury that took Caitlin out for the last 5 minutes of the game which the Indiana Fever, Clark’s team lost to the Phoenix Mercury 111 to 109.
Officials didn’t call a foul on the Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas for injuring Clark. Subsequently Thomas got a single game suspension. This foul was likely the worst example of many sustained by Clark at the hands of opponent team players, and rarely called as fouls by referees in many games against the Fever.
This injury will take one of the Fever’s leading players out at least several games and maybe longer! Clark earlier this year, missed playing time due to another injury to her back due to another flagrant foul against her. Last year she missed extensive time due to a groin injury and severe bone bruising. It is time that the WNBA as a league, and their referees be reprimanded for what can only be called unacceptable targeting of a leading player in the WNBA.
It appears that jealousy by other teams’ players of Clark’s successful prowess is playing out on the court. Single handily Clark’s outstanding play has raised the interest in women’s Basketball. Time to stop these injurious uncalled fouls from continuing.
